Course Description:
You may not remember his name, but almost everyone can remember his injury. Kevin Ware, basketball player from the University of Louisville, suffered an open fracture of the tibia during a game against Duke in 2013. The injury was horrific. What if he was your patient....how do you help him heal to the best of his ability? This course is an overview on fractures. It was designed to help clinicians:
-Differentiate between types of bone healing
-Identify different modalities involved in bone healing
-Identify consequences of soft tissue injuries that accompany open fractures

At the completion of this course, participants should be able to:
- Differentiate between types of bone healing
- Recognize characteristics that involved in fracture healing
- Identify stages of fracture healing
- Differentiate between modalities to facilitate bone healing
- Recognize characteristics of autologous bone grafts
- Identify systemic biologic factors
- Recognize the role that anabolic steroids may play in bone healing
- Differentiate between types of fractures
- Recognize the consequeces of soft tissue injury that accompanies an open fracture
- Identify Compartment Syndrome and how to treat it effectively
Criteria for Obtaining Continuing Education Credits:
A score of 70% or greater on the post-test
