Course Goals and Objectives:
At the completion of this course, participants should be able to:
- List normal age-related changes in the skin
- Recognize the stages of the wound healing process
- Identify the role of the therapist in the wound care team across settings
- Recognize skin tears
- Recognize pressure ulcers
- Differentiate between venous insufficiency ulcers and arterial wounds
- Identify diabetic neuropathic ulcers
- Understand the examination and evaluation of skin and wounds in older adults
- Identify pressure relief options and compression therapy
- Identify appropriate wound dressing products
- Identify surgical interventions for wound closure
- Identify physical agents for wound healing
- Identify the pathophysiology and risk factors for urinary incontinence and interventions to combat these risk factors
