Course Description:

This course is derived from the textbook by Andrew A. Guccione, PT, PhD, DPT, FAPTA, Rita A. Wong, PT, EdD, and Dale Avers, PT, DPT, PhD.  Geriatric Physical Therapy offers a comprehensive presentation of geriatric physical therapy science and practice. Course Goals and Objectives:

At the completion of this course, participants should be able to:

1. Identify the prevalence, challenges, and costs of pain management in older adults
2. Recognize the biopsychosocial model of persistent pain
3. Recognize components of a proper examination and evaluation of the patient with pain
4. Identify therapy interventions to address pain
5. Identify cognitive-behavioral approaches to pain management
6. Recognize a proper examination of older candidates for an orthosis
7. Identify orthotic components
8. Identify the fit and effectiveness of an orthosis
9. List possible clinical applications of the orthotic
10. List examination considerations relevant to physiological changes of aging, prosthetic prescription, prosthetic use, and rehabilitation
11. Recognize a therapy diagnosis, prognosis, and plan of care to guide therapy rehab
12. Identify outcome measures and assessments in regard to prosthetic rehab

 Criteria for Obtaining Continuing Education Credits:

A score of 70% or greater on the post-test
