Course Description:

This course utilizes the text from Muscle Energy Techniques, by Leon Chaitow, ND, DO.  Muscle Energy Techniques sets out clear, practical and clinical guidelines for all students and practitioners wishing to use MET techniques as part of their patient management. These modules present the full array of modern METs and their usage in a variety of acute, chronic and rehabilitation settings. 

Module 4: MET for Post-surgical Rehab, Clinic Setting & Sports covers:

  • Chapter 8a: Manual resistance techniques in rehabilitation
  • Chapter 8b: MET in post-surgical rehabilitation
  • Chapter 9: MET in the physical therapy setting
  • Chapter 11: MET in treatment of athletic injuries

Physical Therapists, Physical Therapist Assistants, Occupational Therapists, Occupational Therapist Assistants and Athletic Trainers.

Course Goals and Objectives:

At the completion of this course, participants should be able to:

  1. Recognize Postisometric Relaxation Techniques (PIR)
  2. Identify the key roles of coactivation of antagonists in maintaining upright posture
  3. Differentiate between functional screening tests
  4. Recognize Brugger's facilitation method for inhibited muscle chains
  5. Identify the answers to common questions about manual resistance techniques such as MET
  6. Identify muscle physiology relevant to the post-surgical environment
  7. Identify slow eccentric isotonic stretching techniques
  8. Differentiate between MET classification models for the clinical setting
  9. Recognize the clinical utilization of muscle energy technique
  10. Recognize the segmental strengthening process
  11. Identify the sports pre-season screening process for muscle dysfunction
  12. Recognize normal mobility measurements
  13. Identify sports recovery techniques
  14. Recognize the prevention of injury using MET, INIT and other techniques 

Criteria for Obtaining Continuing Education Credits:

A score of 70% or greater on the post-test
