Course Description:
The current definition of Neuro-Oncology states: Neuro-oncology is a branch of medicine that concerns brain and spinal cord cancers. Cancers of the nervous system are often severe conditions that eventually become life-threatening. Statistics show that there are approximately 24,500 new cases each year. This course was created to help you effectively treat a patient with a Central Nervous System (CNS) tumor. Laura K Miller, DPT, EdD, NCS, MSCS, ATP will guide you through Neuro-Oncology in this course.

Course Goals and Objectives:
At the completion of this course, participants should be able to:
- Identify the statistics, risk factors, and classification of neuro-oncology tumors
- Differentiate between the type and classification of tumors
- Recognize the symptoms of a spinal cord tumor and a brain tumor
- Differentiate between CT vs MRI, Functional MRI, and PET Scan and their specific uses
- Recognize Neuro-Oncology medical management including medications, biopsy, craniotomy, radiation, and chemotherapy
- Recognize the complication of medical management treatment in rehabilitation
- Identify prognosis indicators in CNS tumors
- Identify outcome measures in Neuro-Oncology Rehab
- Differentiate between specific impairments in patients with CNS tumors and their appropriate recommendations for rehabilitation
- Identify the indications, goals, and exercise recommendations for patients with Neuro-Oncology diagnoses
Criteria for Obtaining Continuing Education Credits:
A score of 70% or greater on the post-test
