The author offers a systematic approach to performing a neuromusculoskeletal assessment with rationales for various aspects of the assessment. Course Goals and Objectives:

At the completion of this course, participants should be able to: 

  1. Recognize the applied anatomy and functions of the foot
  2. Differentiate between the joints in the forefoot
  3. Identify causes of overuse injuries to the lower limb
  4. Recognize weight-bearing positions from all angles
  5. Identify the types of forefoot
  6. Differentiate between the classifications of ankle sprains
  7. List the mechanisms that maintain the arches of the feet
  8. Identify Pes Cavus classifications
  9. Differentiate between common forefoot deformities
  10. Recognize lower leg, ankle, and foot normal end feel
  11. List testing for functional activities in sequential order
  12. Recognize tests for tibial torsion
  13. Differentiate between tests for ligamentous instability
  14. Differentiate between special tests for lower leg, ankle, and foot disorders
  15. Recognize peripheral nerve injuries and their subsequent sensory distribution
  16. Recognize the differential diagnosis of Plantar Fasciitis and Tarsal Tunnel Syndrome
  17. Recognize tests for tarsal bone mobility
  18. List radiographic criteria for syndesmosis injury 

Criteria for Obtaining Continuing Education Credits:

A score of 70% or greater on the post-test
