Course Description:
Although estimates vary depending upon the methodology used to assess pain, it is estimated that chronic pain affects 50 million U.S. adults and 19.6 million of those adults experience high-impact chronic pain that interferes with daily life or work activities. How can we help our patients eliminate, or at the very least, decrease their chronic pain?
Let Dr. Aditi Mehra, DHS, OTR/L teach us therapeutic interventions for pain management.
Dr. Mehra will cover:
- Cognitive, emotional, and psychosocial factors that affect pain
- The main neuroscience concepts important for patient education
- How to label the key elements of assessment and intervention for pain management in healthcare
- Explain restorative therapy approaches to pain management
- Identify the behavioral approaches to pain management

At the completion of this course, participants should be able to:
- Differentiate between types of nociceptors
- Identify and categorize the types of pain
- Recognize the signs and symptoms of acute and chronic pain
- Differentiate between behavioral health approaches of pain management
- Recognize the link between stress and pain
- Differentiate between restorative therapies
- Differentiate between the risks and benefits of cryotherapy, Transcutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulation and Interferential Current
- Identify the evidence for Interferential Current (IFC) use in chronic pain
- Identify the role of therapeutic exercise in pain management
- Recognize the uses of managing pain with mindfulness
Criteria for Obtaining Continuing Education Credits:
A score of 70% or greater on the post-test
