This course utilizes the text from Orthopedic Secrets, by Surena Namdari, MD, Stephen Pill, MD and Samir Mehta, MD. The course presents Pediatric Orthopedic case studies and then walks the reader through the most important aspects of the differential diagnosis. The material offers easy to reference answers to the most important clinical orthopedic questions including mnemonics, bulleted lists and practical tips. The course will help enable you to zero in on key orthopedic information and more quickly and thoroughly make a differential diagnosis. The information is interesting, evidence-based, outcome based and up-to-date.  

This course covers chapter 10: Sports Orthopedics.

Course Goals and Objectives:

At the completion of this course, participants should be able to:

1.   Differentiate between physical exam findings to diagnose acute knee pain
2.   Recognize common exam findings with a meniscal tear
3.   Recognize the graft options available for ACL reconstruction
4.   Identify the reasons for loss of full extension after cruciate ligament surgery
5.   Differentiate between physical exam findings to diagnose an athlete with groin pain
6.   Identify which rotator cuff lesions are associated with chronic shoulder instability
7.   Identify the three maneuvers that are typically used to evaluate posterior instability
8.   Differentiate between the four common types of SLAP lesions
9.   Differentiate between physical exam findings to diagnose medial elbow pain
10. Identify the risks of hypertrophic cardiomyopathy in athletes under the age of 35 

Criteria for Obtaining Continuing Education Credits:

A score of 70% or greater on the post-test
