Course Description:

Did you know that the Sacroiliac Joint was determined to be the source of Low Back Pain in 14-22% of patients?  The presence of Sacroiliac Dysfunction MUST be considered in patients with low back pain.  Join Mark Flinders, PT, ATC, SCS as he breaks down the often-misunderstood SI Joint.   In this course, he will cover:

  • The specific SI Joint Anatomy
  • Understanding the need for SI Joint Examination (as well as how to do a thorough exam) for patients with LBP
  • How to perform special testing for the SI Joint and how to incorporate those findings into SI Joint diagnosis
  • Understanding how to formulate an effective treatment plan for SI Joint disorders

Course Goals and Objectives:

At the completion of this course, participants should be able to:

  1. Identify the history and incidence/prevalence of SI Joint Pain
  2. Recognize anatomy for Ilium, Sacrum, SI Joint, and SIJ Ligaments
  3. Differentiate between SI Joint Innervation
  4. Differentiate between SI Joint Ligaments and recognize the role of each
  5. Identify all the facets of SI Joint Force Closure and the importance of diagnosing and rehabilitating accurately
  6. Identify the stages of SI Joint Development
  7. Recognize the role of imaging in diagnosis
  8. Differentiate between SI Joint special tests
  9. Identify and differentiate between the types of SI Joint treatment: Muscle Energy, Injections, SI Joint Fusion, SI Belt, Manual Therapy, and Traditional Rehabilitation
  10. Identify SI Joint stabilizing exercises 

Criteria for Obtaining Continuing Education Credits:

A score of 70% or greater on the post-test
