Course Description:
This comprehensive two-hour professional development course, Therapeutic Strategies for Addressing Torticollis and Plagiocephaly, is designed to equip occupational therapy practitioners with evidence-based knowledge and practical strategies to manage these common pediatric conditions. Participants will explore the underlying causes and clinical presentations of torticollis, along with the associated craniofacial asymmetries of plagiocephaly. The course will delve into the impact of these conditions on motor development and provide actionable intervention techniques to promote symmetrical alignment and functional outcomes. Additionally, therapists will learn to identify key factors influencing the success of home exercise programs and gain tools to educate families on effective home-based strategies.

Dr. Aditi Mehra DHSc, OTR/L
Dr. Aditi Mehra is an experienced occupational therapist, educator, and entrepreneur dedicated to advancing the field of pediatric therapy through evidence-based practice and education. She earned her Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Therapy from Western Michigan University in 1998 and later pursued a Doctorate in Health Sciences at Midwestern University in Illinois. Recognizing the impact of behavior on therapeutic outcomes, she also obtained a certification in Behavior Analysis to enhance her approach to addressing behavioral challenges in occupational therapy.
With over 25 years of clinical experience, Dr. Mehra has worked in various pediatric settings, including schools and private practice, providing comprehensive therapy services to children with diverse needs. In 2016, she founded the first ABA-based tutoring company in Chicago, further bridging the gap between behavioral and occupational therapy interventions.
Beyond her clinical work, Dr. Mehra is passionate about education and mentorship. She has served as an adjunct professor in occupational therapy at Lewis University and Elmhurst University, guiding the next generation of therapists.

At the completion of this course, participants should be able to:
- Identify the etiology and clinical postural presentation of torticollis
- Identify the head shape and facial presentation of plagiocephaly
- Recognize the impact of torticollis and plagiocephaly on motor development
- Differentiate between 4 intervention strategies to address torticollis and symmetrical alignment to return the patient to play activities and increase the achievement of developmental milestones
- Recognize 3 factors that can impact the efficacy of home exercise programs
- Differentiate between 5 home program activities that parents can utilize to manage torticollis in the home environment to resume more developmentally appropriate play activities
- Recognize the importance of soft tissue massage to correct asymmetrical musculature
- Identify the challenges of a HEP for adherence to CMT exercises
Criteria for Obtaining Continuing Education Credits:
