Course Description:

This course utilizes the text: Orthopedic Clinical Advisor by Derrick Sueki, PT, DPT, GCPT, OCS and Jacklyn Brechter, PhD, PT.  This course will help you access the information you need to confidently handle multiple orthopedic conditions.  Essential clinical reference information provides up-to-date diagnostic and therapeutic information on common conditions in a bulleted, quick-reference format ideal for both students and practitioners. Content is written entirely by orthopedic therapists and is logically organized to promote accurate, efficient differential diagnosis and intervention. 

Module 2: TMJ covers:

  • Chapter 7b: Orthopedic Reasoning- Temporomandibular and Craniofacial Dysfunction
  • Chapter 6c: Orthopedic Pathology- Craniofacial and Temporomandibular Joint
  • Chapter 4d: Rehab & Common Questions- Temporomandibular Joint

Course Goals and Objectives:

At the completion of this course, participants should be able to:

  1. Recognize the cardinal signs of Temporomandibular Disorder (TMD)
  2. Identify common physical therapy initial home education examples
  3. Recognize incidence and prevalence of Trigeminal Neuralgia
  4. Identify biomechanical abnormalities in other regions that affect TMD
  5. Identify the cardinal signs of Bell's Palsy
  6. Recognize the contributing factors of Benign Paroxysmal Positional Vertigo
  7. Recognize the physical examination findings of TMJ (Temporomandibular Joint) subluxation
  8. Recognize what role does acuteness or chronicity play in rehabilitating a patient with TMJ pain
  9. Differentiate between which interventions have proven most successful in treating patients with TMJ pain
  10. Recognize the proper TMJ mobilitation based on motion restriction 

Criteria for Obtaining Continuing Education Credits:

A score of 70% or greater on the post-test
