Course Description:
What can you do to help that sweet patient you are treating with cognitive issues? How can you better serve that compliant patient that wants to improve so badly but is struggling with memory decline? What are some effective strategies? Is there anything that has been overlooked and might be an easy fix? Maxwell Perkins, MS, OTR/L answers those questions and more.
At the end of the course, you should be able to:
-Name six conditions/co-morbidities that negatively impact an individual’s cognitive/memory function
-List three reversible conditions (often undiagnosed) that can negatively affect an individual’s cognition and memory
-Identify the number one intervention strategy to address cognitive/memory deficits and co-morbidities

At the completion of this course, participants should be able to:
- Identify known risk factors for developing Alzheimer’s/Impact on Cognitive/Memory Function
- Recognize risk factors for AD that are modifiable
- Differentiate between reversible causes of memory change
- Identify and differentiate between Frontal Lobe Function and Executive Function and the role they play in cognition/memory function
- Recognize the role that sleep hygiene and depression play in cognition/memory
- Identify communication strategies for older adults
- Differentiate between treatment strategies for cognition/memory
- Recognize the important components of patient education for older adults
- Identify the cognition/memory improvements that can be associated with physical activity
- Identify activities for brain stimulation
Criteria for Obtaining Continuing Education Credits:
A score of 70% or greater on the post-test
