Course Description:
According to recent statistics, 23% of all adults or 54 million people have arthritis. Often knees are the common area of complaint. When you receive a script for a patient with arthritic knees are you hesitant to help? Do you think that you can’t make a difference? William Claussen, PT with the Shelbourne Knee Center, is here to walk you through how you can help your patients with Arthritic Knees feel better. He will explain treatment strategies from the first visit to the last. And if your patient does have a TKA eventually, William Claussen will show you, using recent studies, how you have made their recovery a little easier.

Course Goals and Objectives:
At the completion of this course, participants should be able to:
- Identify the characteristics of non-painful arthritic knees
- Recognize good conditioning exercises for arthritic knees
- Recognize recent OA knee studies and what effect they have on current treatment protocols.
- Identify the timeline for treating a patient conservatively vs post operatively
- Identify the benefits of preoperative rehabilitation
- Recognize the members of a successful TKA Interdisciplinary team
- Identify the benefits of being discharged to home vs an inpatient facility
- Differentiate between post-operative rehabilitation protocols
- Recognize appropriate exercises for 4 weeks post op
- Recognize appropriate exercises for 2 months post op
Criteria for Obtaining Continuing Education Credits:
A score of 70% or greater on the post-test
